Description: | Page one of c1929 Gomme Tables catalogue with heading 'Tables Old and New'. Illustrates model 0299 Draw Table and the historical Cafn Mably table. |
Notes: |
Model 0299 has four square section, slightly tapering legs. This page also introduces the range of Draw Tables by situating them in their historical context by mentioning the 40 ft long Cafn Mably table* and that Draw Tables, now available to the "most modest purse" were introduced from the Continent in Elizabethan days. * Victor Chinnery author of the book "Oak Furniture", published in 1979 wrote: "The longest single plank table top known to the present writer was recently rediscovered at Cefn Mabli, having probably originated in nearby Tredegar Park. It is now in a sadly mutilated state, but was recorded in 1908 as being 42 feet long". It was photographed at the time, it had 14 legs of which 10 were turned and 4 chamfered. |
