Title: Ercol employee attaching fabric to chair back
Photographer: unknown
Date: 1976
Decade: 1970-1979
Manufacturer: Ercol Furniture Ltd.
Description: Colour slide showing an Ercol upholsterer applying top fabric to a chair back. The strip of yellow card (back-tacking strip) is attached along one edge, the fabric is then drawn back over it to create a clean, crisp edge. The fabric is then tensioned over the strip of metal back-tacking strip on the opposite edge ( this has a row of teeth which holds the fabric, allows the edge to be trimmed, tucked and clamped in a simultaneous finishing action).
Notes: This image is an outtake from Ercol's 'Craft Around the World' slide presentation from 1976. Date is from the presentation's slide carousel box.
