Description: Page from G-Plan '1959 New Models' folder illustrating Librenza units inTola and black with brass fittings, designed to take Hi-Fi equipment. Top picture shows left hand unit with sliding top to base within which is housed a turntable. The unit on the right has its base covered with speaker fabric.
In the lower picture both units have upper cabinets converted to speaker units whilst one base houses turntable below sliding top, whilst the other has a television and cocktail cabinet
Notes: Although later G-Plan co-operated with Pye to produce a joint furniture/hi-fi leaflet, in 1959 it seems there was a link with the London firm Pamphonic as their equipment was fitted.
The name ' Librenza' was devised by Doris Gundry (J Walter Thompson - advertising agency) being a combination of library and cadenza. Doris Gundry was also the inspiration behind the G-plan name and early G-Plan slogans. ref: HWFA Research Material, Sept 2007, Leslie Dandy notes ' A Designer's View. Unpublished comments.
