Description:

Photograph of G-Plan hi-fi cabinet, T. 934Q, that provides a complete home entertainment centre, with folding lid, in Tola veneers on black stand with brass feet. It could be fitted with turntable, radio, tape recorder and amplifier; it also served as a coffee table. It could be linked to separate speakers or have built in speakers in place of the tape recorder.

Typewritten caption stuck to the back of the photograph reads: "A new cabinet (T. 934Q) introduced to the G-Plan range is designed to hold High Fidelity sound equipment. It is in walnut brown with legs of black lacquer and adjustable brass screw-in feet, matching other furniture in the G-Plan range. The lids fold back in the centre so one can reach the controls and then lift up for access to the end compartments. At one end of the cabinet there is space for a tape recorder and at the other a turntable. Here it is shown fitted with a Pamphonic transcription turntable unit (price £19 10s. 0d, including tax); an F.M. Radio Unit type 640 (price £17 9s. 0d. including tax); a Pamphonic amplifier type 2001 and pre-amplifier control unit type 2001A which cost £40 gns together. The cabinet (price £29. 0. 0. ) is used either in conjunction with separate loudspeakers or these can be fitted into it in place of the tape recorder, to form a self contained unit.

Notes:

'1958' is written in pencil on the reverse of the photograph. This would appear to be an early version as the same model number was used for a very similar cabinet on simple turned legs without underframe, speaker-fabric covered sides, and where the detail of the top had been changed to have a chamfered lip. (See GM09_02 and GBX01_13).
