|Furniture period styles:||
|Manufacturer:||E Gomme Ltd.|
|Description:||Cover of c1929 Gomme Tables catalogue.|
This cover in gold on black shows distinct Art Deco tendencies even if the furniture illustrated inside does not. The 24 page catalogue contains 26 different "Draw Leaf" (extending) table designs in oak, as well as one available in walnut or mahogany. It also includes 3 small occasional tables and 4 pages of line drawings of Living Room Schemes.
Quality is stressed by explanations of constructional techniques (see GM05_18_06) and the use of cabinet-makers' terminology such as "rule" and "knuckle joints".The historical context is outlined (see GM05_18_02) yet the target market is clearly middle class with houses that do not have separate dining rooms as the sample dining suites illustrated at the back of the catalogue are described as "Living Room Schemes" (see GM05_18_21 & 22) and it is explained that these are now available to the "most modest purse".
