B/W photographic print showing: Ercol's timber matcher, selecting and marking timber boards with sympathetic grain.
Text Transcript:
..no amount of planning can make a straight-grained piece of timber match a wild one. For that, it's down to the random chance of nature and the judgement of a man's eye. Perhaps that's why Tom (Tom Dean) always stops for a few seconds to watch him, the matcher, patiently putting pieces together and laying them aside until he's satisfied with a complete section, later to become a cabinet door or table-top. ref: Ercol catalogue 1988, page 11.
